1997
- Sean Patrick is diagnosed with a rare form of ovarian cancer at age 46
1999
- Sean participates in FDA approved clinical trial in Nashville, TN, followed by her fifth surgery
2000
- Sean collaborates with Johns Hopkins on Ovarian Cancer Information Project and completes web site: http://ovariancancer.jhmi.edu
2001
- Sean is transported via “Flight for Life” to Johns Hopkins for emergency surgery and goes into remission
2002
- Sean forms the HERA Women’s Cancer Foundation
- Inaugural HERA Climb4Life Utah is held
- The HERA Valley Cancer Support Fund (CO) begins with HERA’s first Community Grant
2003
- The first HERA OSB1 Research Grant is awarded to Dr. Brant Wang
- HERA continues to support the HERA Valley Cancer Support Fund (CO)
- A second Community Grant is awarded to the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Nevada (NV)
- The 2nd Annual Climb4Life Utah is held with double the participants
2004
- HERA OSB1 Research Grants are awarded to Dr. Hiroyuki Yoshida, Dr. Martina Bazzaro and Dr. Christina Borgeest
- HERA continues to support The HERA Valley Cancer Support Fund (CO)
- Other Community Grants are awarded to OU Medical Center (OK) and the Women’s Wilderness Institute (CO)
- HERA celebrates the 3rd Annual Climb4Life Utah
- The HERA REI Climb4Life Road Tour launches in REI stores and 39 climbing gyms in 6 cities
- HERA receives IZZE Q Award for outstanding grassroots non-profit organization
- Sean is a featured guest on the Jane Pauley Show
2005
- HERA OSB1 Research Grants are awarded to Dr. Kentaro Nakayama, Dr. Antonio Santillan and Dr. Martina Bazzaro
- HERA Community Grants are awarded to Nicki’s Circle (CO) and the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Nevada (NV)
- The 4th Annual Climb4Life Utah is held and the first Climb4Life Las Vegas is held
- The HERA Climb4Life REI Road Tour celebrates its second year
- Sean receives Climbing Magazine’s Golden Piton Award for Outstanding Service Organization

- HERA OSB1 Research Grants are awarded to Dr. Martina Bazzaro and Dr. Tonya Webb
- HERA holds the Inaugural Climb4Life DC Metro and Climb4Life Smith Rock
- HERA Community Grants are awarded to R.O.A.R. – Responsible Ovarian Awareness Required! (PA), The Ovarian Cancer Coalition of Greater California and SHARE: Self-Help for Women with Breast or Ovarian Cancer
- HERA celebrates the 5th Annual Climb4Life Utah

- HERA OSB1 Research Grants are awarded to Dr. Chih-long Chang, Dr. Natini Jinnawath, Dr. Rob Bristow, and Dr. Bryan Hennessy
- 2nd Annual Climb4Life DC Metro held
- HERA Community Grants are awarded to the Women’s Advocacy Network (VA), Ovar’ Coming Together (IN), EASE (WA) and Ovarian Cancer Awareness of KY, and Woman-to-Woman (UT)
- Inaugural Climb4Life Colorado is held
- The 6th Annual Climb4Life Utah is held
2008
- HERA OSB1 Research Grants are awarded to Dr. Balasubramanyam Karanam and Dr. Stephanie Ueda
- 3rd Annual Climb4Life DC Metro is held
- HERA Community Grants are awarded to The Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Florida, the Toledo Hospital (OH), and The Support Connection of Yorktown Heights (NY)
- 2nd Annual Climb4Life Colorado held
- 7th Annual Climb4Life Utah held
2009
- Sean succumbs to ovarian cancer after a twelve year battle
- 4th Annual Climb4Life DC Metro held
- 3rd Annual Climb4Life Colorado held
- HERA hires its first Executive Director
- Sean Patrick is posthumously awarded the OIWC Pioneering Woman Award at Outdoor Retailer
- 8th Annual Climb4Life Utah held
- HERA OSB1 Research Grants are awarded to Dr. Dan Lu, Dr. Yuan Tian and Dr. Marie-France Penet, with HERA awarding more than $300,000 for cancer research to date
- Community Grants are awarded to the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Nevada (NV) and The Support Connection (NY)
- HERA’s Partner in Action, Petzl Climbing Gear, hits the 10,000 unit mark for sales of the teal blue HERAbiner, donating $1 from each sale to the HERA Foundation
2010

- 9th Annual Climb4Life Utah held
- HERA OSB1 Research Grants are awarded to Dr. Bin Guan, Dr. Ana Tergas, and Dr. Okey Ibeanu
- Dr. Kwong K. Wong receives the first HERA Award for research on the cause, early detection, treatment and/or understanding of “low grade” ovarian cancer
- HERA has awarded more than $460,000 for cancer research to date
