If you’ve ever come to a Climb4Life, or just been part of HERA for awhile, you’ve probably heard the name “Stanley.” He’s coveted, he’s contested, he’s cherished. You’ve heard the lore, but, just who is Stanley anyway?
The Stanley Award was created by HERA founder, Sean Patrick. When she started Climb4Life in 2001, she was told that people would donate to a rock climbing event when pigs flew. Well, some 11 years later, the Climb4Life events are still going strong and raising lots of awareness about ovarian cancer and lots of funds for HERA. And, Stanley, the flying pig award? He’s still going strong, too. The top fundraising team at the Climb4Life weekends get to take Stanley home, and the competition is fierce!
Who’s going to be the top fundraising team at the 2012 Climb4Life UT? Will it be Bury the Dragon, or the newcomers, Oh my…Ovaries? Serenity is always a contender, but don’t count out Teal Climbing Seals or Grana, Yampah Mountain High School or The Swanmanns. So far, $5500+ has been raised by the Salt Lake Climb4Life participants: thanks to everyone who’s donated and let’s keep it going! People are doing some crazy things to raise funds, even shaving their heads! The top fundraising team will win some cool prizes and get to take home the coveted Stanley Award.
It’s not too late to register. Climb4Life UT is right around the corner, September 14-16, and teams are still forming. New this year: a kids’ climb and an outdoor photography workshop! We promise a beautiful weekend of rock climbing, hiking, photography, great food, great fun, great friends. Click here to register now and get in on the fun. Or, donate to your favorite participant and help their team give Stanley a new home.
