Partnerships
HERA is currently at work on partnerships to ensure that women get to gyn/oncologists for care. Getting to the right doctor is key to improving survival. Less than 50% of women nationally and less than 30% of women in the mountain states are getting to the right doctors. (This is in contrast to men who routinely receive specialty referrals for prostate cancer.) Our goal is to change that statistic and correct the inequality in care between men’s and women’s cancer of the reproductive system.
Rural Women’s Ovarian Cancer Initiative
The Rural Women’s Ovarian Cancer Initiative is a partnership with the University of Utah and Huntsman Cancer Center, insurance companies and stakeholders in Utah. The phase I pilot will determine the obstacles that keep women in the mountain states from getting referred to specialists for the disease. Phase II will create a plan and implementation strategy to remove the obstacles.
Out ultimate goal is to take what we learn in this initiative and be able to replicate it around the country.
